HISTORY

Junior Achievement was originally established in 1919 and has continued to grow into an international organization over the past 90 years. Junior Achievement of Guilford County was incorporated on July 1, 1965. There were thirty (30) directors made up of very prominent, local business leaders. Due to expansion into Alamance and Randolph counties, in 1990 the name was changed to Junior Achievement of Central North Carolina, Inc.

Thus the JA Afterschool program was started and has evolved into an in-school program that reaches students at all grade levels. Junior Achievement provides practical economic education programs and experiences to students in kindergarten through twelfth grade with strong, collaborative partnerships between local business and education communities.

In 1997 the Benjamin family, in memory of Blanche Sternberger Benjamin, donated the historic Starmount Farmhouse, which now stands as the headquarters for Junior Achievement of Central North Carolina, Inc. It stands as a beautiful landmark in Greensboro and is recognized as the “JA House.”

They come from all walks of life, but they share a passion to prepare today's youth for tomorrow's workforce. From teaching in-class programs to hosting special events, these extraordinary people are the backbone of the organization!
